COVID-19 on May 8 increased slightly, with 1 death in Tay Ninh

In the past 24 hours, the whole country recorded 2,055 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death in Tay Ninh˳ The WHO Vietnam representative said that although the medical emergency with COVID-19 has ended, it does not mean that they have disappeared˳

According to a report by the Ministry of Health, in the past 24 hours, the whole country recorded 2,055 new COVID-19 cases˳ Compared to May 7, the number of COVID-19 cases today has increased slightly (103 cases) but is still at a high level compared to nearly a month ago (fluctuating around 1,000 cases)˳

Currently, the country is treating 84 serious cases˳ During the day, 1 death was recorded in Tay Ninh and 474 cases were announced to be cured˳

Thus, the average number of COVID-19 deaths in the past 1 week is 1 case˳ The total number of deaths from COVID-19 in Vietnam so far is 43,197, accounting for 0˳4% of the total number of infections˳

Since the beginning of the epidemic, our country has recorded more than 11˳5 million infections, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories, while with the rate of infections per million people, Vietnam ranks 120th/ 231 countries and territories (117,004 cases per million people on average)˳

Regarding the situation of vaccination against COVID-19, no shots were given during the day˳ The total number of vaccine doses that have been administered to date is more than 266˳2 million doses˳

COVID-19 is no longer urgent, does not mean it is gone

On the afternoon of May 8, at the headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Hanoi, representatives of WHO and the Ministry of Health had specific information after the organization announced the end of the global health emergency˳ The demand for COVID-19 has been going on for more than 3 years˳

Dr Angela Pratt – WHO Representative in Vietnam – said that although declaring an end to the medical emergency with the COVID-19 epidemic, it does not mean that it has disappeared, is no longer a threat, but still exists˳ in the community˳

The reason WHO declared an end to the state of emergency is because when the results of the assessment of COVID-19 adaptation status were available, the number of cases, the number of severe cases, and the need for care decreased˳ At the same time, the community had natural immunity due to the high number of cases˳
