The Ministry of National Defence recently held a summary conference for 2024 on legal affairs, inspections, legal affairs, audits, and the 1389 work, showcasing the positive efforts and achievements of the entire army in carrying out their duties.

Overall Assessment and Future Guidance

At the conference, Lieutenant General Võ Minh Lương, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Head of the 1389 Steering Committee, acknowledged and commended the efforts of all agencies and units throughout the army. He emphasized the necessity of continuing to closely adhere to and rigorously implement the directives, resolutions, and regulations of the Party, State, and the Ministry of National Defence regarding institutional development, legal reform, administrative reform, and the fight against crime.

Deputy Minister Võ Minh Lương requested that legal agencies strengthen the effectiveness of investigation, prosecution, trial, and enforcement, particularly in complex and serious cases. Handling cases must comply with the stipulated deadlines.

Enhancing Border and Maritime Patrol and Control

Border Guard and Coast Guard forces were instructed to intensify patrols, inspections, and the handling of legal violations, combating crime, smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeit goods within their authority. They need to proactively monitor and forecast the situation to maintain public order and safety along the border and maritime areas, especially in key locations.

Investment in Modern Equipment

To carry out missions more effectively, Lieutenant General Võ Minh Lương requested that agencies and units research and propose investment in modern equipment.

2024 Achievements

In 2024, the Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defence, and all levels led and directed legal, inspection, legal affairs, audit agencies and the relevant forces in successfully completing their missions.

Specifically, the Ministry of National Defence’s Criminal Investigation Agency handled 536 cases. The Border Guard successfully cracked 119 major cases, apprehending over 7,200 individuals in nearly 15,000 incidents, and initiating investigations into 786 cases involving 972 individuals.

The Coast Guard detected and processed over 5,300 fishing vessels violating regulations, nearly 1,700 incidents involving over 2,200 individuals at sea and coastal areas. Efforts were also made in the areas of propaganda and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing practices.

Significantly, the 86th Command actively combated, exposed, and neutralized over 19,700 harmful articles and videos that opposed the Party, State, and the military.

Awards for Outstanding Teams and Individuals

At the conference, Lieutenant General Võ Minh Lương and Lieutenant General Lê Quang Minh presented certificates of merit to 35 teams and 35 individuals who excelled in combating crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeit goods in 2024, as well as during the peak period before, during, and after the Lunar New Year (Ất Tỵ).
