HCM City’s Chairman Nguyễn Văn Được has met with the Department of Transport (DOT) to discuss the 2025 transportation plan, emphasizing the crucial role of transportation in the city’s socio-economic development.

The Importance of Transportation

Transportation is the lifeblood of Ho Chi Minh City’s economy, playing a vital role in unlocking development potential and mobilizing resources. Chairman Nguyễn Văn Được highlighted this importance, affirming that a key task for HCM City in the coming time is to significantly invest in infrastructure, address project challenges, and stimulate growth. The slogan “Lộ thông tài thông, đại lộ đại phú” reflects this commitment.

Massive Funding and Key Projects

2025 is considered a pivotal year for HCM City’s infrastructure development and urban expansion. The DOT has been allocated a substantial investment budget of 36.433 trillion VND, accounting for 43% of the city’s total public investment (81.149 trillion VND). This substantial funding presents significant challenges regarding timely and effective disbursement.

Key projects include:

  • Expanding National Road 50 (Bình Chánh): This project, along with other constructions, such as the Trần Quốc Hoàn – Cộng Hòa (Tân Bình) link road, is being expedited.
  • HCM City Ring Road 3 and An Phú Interchange: Critical sections of these projects are actively being completed.
  • Projects Marking the 50th Anniversary of National Reunification: This includes the Cần Giờ International Transshipment Port (Phase 1), a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, Ring Road 2, Nguyễn Khoái Bridge, and the HCM City – Moc Bai Expressway.

Preparing for Investment in 140 Projects

The DOT continues to prepare for investments in 140 projects in 2025, encompassing 98 transportation projects and 42 infrastructure projects. In the second quarter, the DOT will present 22 large-scale projects to HCM City, such as Thủ Thiêm 4 Bridge, Cần Giờ Bridge, and sections of Ring Road 2.

Controlling Emissions and Developing Public Transport

Beyond infrastructure investment, HCM City is implementing emission control programs to improve citizens’ quality of life and reduce environmental pollution. Phase 1 of this program is complete, including policies to support the development of electric buses by 2030. The DOT is studying Phase 2, with plans to support the transition of other transportation modes, potentially including pilot programs in certain districts/wards.

Conclusion

The 2025 transportation development plan for HCM City is a comprehensive strategy focusing on infrastructure investment, optimizing investment effectiveness, and developing public transportation. Successful implementation of this plan will significantly contribute to HCM City’s sustainable development in the coming period.
