On November 11, singer Bằng Kiều publicly apologized on his personal page for comments made about “K-pop king” G-Dragon. He stated that the content of his post was meant as a joke, with no intention to attack or compare with anyone.
“However, after rereading and receiving numerous comments, I understand that the wording was inappropriate and could cause discomfort to many. Immediately after, I removed the post and learned a profound lesson.
Sharing on social media requires greater caution, as sometimes a casual remark can be interpreted in various ways. I always value and respect all artists, audiences, as well as G-Dragon’s fans and those involved,” Bằng Kiều shared.
The male singer also extended his apologies to his two colleagues, Quốc Thiên and Trung Quân Idol, as his post unintentionally drew them into an unnecessary controversy.
“‘Thank you everyone for your candid feedback and for continuing to show me concern and affection throughout this time,’ Bằng Kiều emphasized.”
Earlier on the evening of November 10, Bằng Kiều expressed his disappointment upon seeing many Vietnamese artists attend G-Dragon’s show. He then made comments that were perceived as disparaging the professionalism of BIGBANG’s leader. The post was accompanied by a photo of Bằng Kiều with Quốc Thiên and Trung Quân Idol.
“‘I saw many of my A-list celebrity colleagues attending G-Dragon’s show. I wonder if any Korean stars would support a Vietnamese star performing in Korea. It made me feel a bit disheartened; perhaps I’m being subjective, but purely on professional merit, the three people in this photo could easily outperform him,’ Bằng Kiều stated his view.”
Bằng Kiều’s post drew widespread criticism. Audiences believed the statement disrespected international artists, implicated Quốc Thiên and Trung Quân Idol, and fueled animosity among fan communities. Many disagreed with Bằng Kiều’s examples, arguing that all comparisons are inherently flawed.
Recently, singer G-Dragon chose Vietnam as one of the stops on his global Übermensch tour. The two concerts held on November 8-9 in Hưng Yên attracted nearly 100,000 spectators, widely considered one of the most spectacular international music events ever hosted in Vietnam.
Many Vietnamese artists also shared images of their enthusiastic support and ‘idol chasing’ at G-Dragon’s concert, including SOOBIN, Diệu Nhi, Lưu Hương Giang, RHYDER, Dương Hoàng Yến, Hậu Hoàng, Đàm Thu Trang, Hồng Ánh, and others.
G-Dragon (born 1988, real name Kwon Ji-young) is a singer, songwriter, music producer, and leader of BIGBANG – a global K-pop (Korean pop music) icon.
After nearly three decades in the entertainment industry, G-Dragon continues to maintain his position as the number one star in the Korean music scene.
The artist is regarded as one of South Korea’s top royalty earners, with an annual income of nearly $1.4 million from songwriting. Forbes Asia magazine once listed him among its ’30 Under 30 Asia’ in the entertainment category.
Beyond his artistry, G-Dragon is also a leading fashion icon in Asia. He frequently attends fashion weeks in Paris (France), Milan (Italy), and Seoul (South Korea), collaborating with luxury brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and others.
