In the first few days of the week (from February 10 to 12), reporters from Dân trí conducted surveys on frequently congested roads in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The results showed a noticeable improvement in traffic conditions compared to before the 2025 Lunar New Year.
Hanoi Traffic: Smoother Flow, No More Long Waits at Red Lights
About two weeks after the end of the Tet holiday, key roads in Hanoi such as Nguyen Chi Thanh, Thang Long Boulevard, Nguyen Trai, and Truong Chinh all reported a significant reduction in vehicle volume. Particularly during rush hours in the early morning and late afternoon, although traffic was still heavy, there were no longer prolonged traffic jams.
At 8:30 AM, on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, vehicles moved smoothly. Unlike the pre-Tet chaos where drivers fought for every inch of space, vehicles now flow easily without major obstacles. Other roads like Nguyen Trai (heading from Ha Dong to the city center) and Ngã Tư Sở intersection also saw positive improvements. Commuters no longer have to spend excessive time navigating complex intersections.
Ho Chi Minh City Traffic: Improvement Thanks to Decree 168/2024
In Ho Chi Minh City, traffic conditions are also showing promising signs. Major roads like Pham Van Dong, Hoang Minh Giam, and areas around Tan Son Nhat Airport reported thinner traffic density. This makes commuting easier for residents, who no longer endure long traffic jams from morning to night.
Mr. Tran Nguyen Gia Hung (32 years old), a resident of Binh Thanh District, shared: “The current traffic situation is much more comfortable compared to the pre-Tet period. Vehicles move easily, and there’s no need to wait through 4-5 red lights to cross an intersection.”
Additionally, the implementation of Decree 168/2024 on increased traffic violation penalties has contributed to this positive change. People are more aware of following traffic laws, staying in the correct lanes, and waiting at red lights. This helps reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
Key Factors Behind the Improvements
1. Reduced Number of Vehicles After Tet
One of the main reasons for improved traffic flow is the significant decrease in the number of vehicles after the Tet holiday. Many people have not yet returned to the cities after their long break, especially workers, students, and freelance laborers.
2. Effectiveness of Traffic Management Measures
Authorities have implemented various measures to alleviate traffic pressure. From adjusting traffic light systems and reasonable lane management to increased patrols and violation checks, all these efforts contribute to improving the situation.
3. Increased Public Awareness
People are becoming more conscious of following traffic regulations. Adhering to speed limits, lane discipline, and stopping at red lights not only ensures safety but also reduces the risk of congestion.
Conclusion: Towards a Sustainable Traffic System
The post-Tet 2025 traffic situation in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City demonstrates that combining effective management measures with public awareness can bring about positive changes. To maintain and enhance these results, it’s essential to continue promoting education and strictly enforcing traffic safety regulations. Let’s work together to build a civilized, safe, and sustainable traffic environment.
