During the 8-day Tet holiday from January 25 to February 1, healthcare facilities nationwide effectively carried out medical examinations and treatments, ensuring public health. The latest statistics highlight the outstanding efforts of the health sector in maintaining stable operations even during the long holiday.
Medical Examinations, Treatment, and Emergency Care
According to a report from the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Administration (Ministry of Health), the healthcare system maintained a full four-level on-call system, serving nearly 550,000 medical examinations and emergency visits. Among these, the number of inpatients reached almost 200,000 cases. Notably, over 19,000 surgeries were performed, including 3,275 emergency surgeries due to accidents, along with successful deliveries and C-sections, welcoming 16,508 newborns.
Significant Decrease in Severe Accident Cases
Notably, compared to the same Tet holiday period in 2024, the number of examinations and emergency cases related to firecrackers, fireworks, and homemade weapons significantly decreased. Only 481 cases required medical attention due to firecrackers or fireworks, and 47 cases were related to homemade weapons or explosives. No fatalities were recorded in this group. A specific comparison shows that the total number of examinations and emergency cases due to firecrackers/fireworks decreased by 135 people (nearly 23%), while cases related to homemade weapons decreased by 48 people (approximately 53%).
Furthermore, digestive disorders, food poisoning from homemade food, or alcohol/beer intoxication were also well-controlled. Over 700 people sought medical attention for these issues, with nearly 450 cases requiring hospitalization for monitoring and treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Significant Decrease in Traffic Accidents
Another highlight of this year’s Tet holiday was the notable reduction in traffic accident cases. Statistics show over 24,000 examinations and emergency visits suspected to be due to traffic accidents, with more than 9,750 people requiring inpatient treatment or monitoring. A total of 159 fatalities were recorded, including 66 people who died before reaching a healthcare facility, 38 who died at the hospital, and 55 who were terminally ill and opted to return home.
Compared to the same Tet period last year, suspected traffic accident examinations and emergency cases decreased by nearly 9%, hospital admissions decreased by 11%, and fatalities decreased by 28%. This reflects the effectiveness of traffic safety awareness campaigns and close coordination among functional agencies.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Overall, the healthcare situation during the 8-day Tet holiday in 2025 achieved positive results. The thorough preparation and high sense of responsibility of the medical staff contributed to ensuring public health. However, to maintain and further improve the quality of healthcare services, individuals need to raise their awareness of accident prevention, especially during holidays. Always adhere to traffic laws, limit the use of firecrackers, and pay attention to food safety and hygiene to protect your health and your family’s.
