Coach Indra Sjafri, who previously led the Indonesian U23 team to victory at the 32nd SEA Games in 2023, has high expectations from Indonesian football fans.

The 2025 U20 Asian Championship also serves as a test for Coach Indra Sjafri to determine whether he will be entrusted by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to lead the U22 team at this year’s SEA Games 33.

However, his start in the Asian youth tournament was not smooth. As early as the 5th minute, U20 Indonesia conceded a goal, with Hesam Nafari scoring the opener for U20 Iran.

After conceding, U20 Indonesia played with determination but failed to break through the West Asian defense.

In the second half, as the Indonesian players’ stamina waned, they conceded two more goals. In the 63rd minute, Gholizadeh received a pass from teammate Nima Andarz and scored with a stunning volley, extending Iran’s lead to 2-0.

The onslaught continued, and in the 70th minute, Iran scored their third goal. Gholizadeh delivered a corner kick, assisting Dehghan to head home and seal a 3-0 victory for Iran.

This win puts Iran at the top of Group C with three points. Uzbekistan also has three points after defeating Yemen 1-0 but ranks below Iran due to inferior goal difference. U20 Indonesia sits at the bottom of Group C.
