VCCA Hosts “Layers of Alluvium” Art Exhibition

VCCA tổ chức triển lãm "Như những lớp phù sa"

The “Layers of Alluvium” exhibition celebrates love, passion, and aesthetic values, reflecting the artistic journey of Trinh Tuan and Cong Kim Hoa. Both artists have dedicated over three decades to promoting lacquer art among generations of students and art enthusiasts.

Though their works have been featured in numerous large-scale exhibitions both nationally and internationally, this marks the first time that the couple’s artworks are showcased together in a thematic exhibition in Vietnam.

Nearly 100 artworks on display serve as slow-motion frames, revisiting their creative journey and deep connection with lacquer—a material that has become a testament to their love for each other, nature, and Hanoi—the land that nurtured them.

Both artists work with lacquer but have developed distinct styles, rhythms, and palettes. Trinh Tuan’s lacquer art conveys subtle emotional nuances—his portraits and landscapes of Hanoi exude poetic charm. Meanwhile, Cong Kim Hoa embraces abstract stylization, featuring bold color blocks that evoke nature’s softness and fluidity.

Art researcher Pham Long, who has accompanied the two artists since their early days experimenting with lacquer, shared: “With a spirit of creativity, disciplined craftsmanship, and continuous learning, after a third of a century, Trinh Tuan and Cong Kim Hoa’s lacquer art has become like fertile alluvial layers, enriching Vietnam’s cultural heritage.”

During the exhibition, VCCA will host various educational events such as art talks, guided tours, and hands-on workshops to bring art closer to the public.

The “Layers of Alluvium” lacquer exhibition is free and open to the public from February 14 to April 15 at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), B1-R3 Vincom Mega Mall Royal City, 72A Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi.

Artist Trinh Tuan, born in 1961 in Hanoi, graduated from the University of Industrial Fine Arts in 1986. His career is deeply rooted in lacquer art, renowned for its aesthetic richness. His paintings blend surrealism with touches of realism, imbued with profound emotional depth.

Artist Cong Kim Hoa, born in 1962 in Hanoi, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Industrial Fine Arts in 1985. She is one of the few female artists specializing in lacquer, known for her stylized depictions of nature that reflect the rhythms of life, particularly those of Vietnamese women.
