Three fishermen missing in Nghệ An’s waters are the focus of an urgent search effort by authorities. Since March 18th, numerous vessels, coast guard, and maritime police have been deployed, expanding the search area to 40 nautical miles.
How is the Search Being Conducted?
The incident began around 6 PM on March 18th when the fishing vessel NA-80209-TS, captained by Mr. N.V.C., sank while entering the channel. Four fishermen were aboard; three—Mr. L.T.A. and Mr. B.S.N.—are missing. One fisherman, Mr. T.V.H., was rescued by a fishing vessel from Hà Tĩnh and brought ashore.
Immediately, the Quỳnh Thuận Border Guard Station deployed two patrol boats, along with 16 officers from the 2nd Coast Guard Squadron, coordinating with numerous local fishing vessels in the search. The Ministry of National Defence also dispatched a coast guard vessel and a vessel from the 38th Coast Guard Regiment to assist. The search area has been expanded to a radius of approximately 40 nautical miles from the site of the incident.
Community Support
Beyond official efforts, the fishing community is actively participating in the search. The Vietnam Fishermen’s Association has called on local associations in Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, and Hà Tĩnh to inform members and mobilize support for the search.
Preliminary Results and Ongoing Efforts
On March 19th, local authorities visited and offered support to the families of the missing fishermen. Efforts to locate the three missing fishermen are ongoing, with hopes that the search will yield positive results and bring them safely ashore.
