A 14-year-old boy, N.H.L., from Tuyên Hóa District, Quảng Bình Province, suffered the tragic loss of his left hand and severe injuries to his right hand after a homemade firecracker exploded.
On March 24th, Mr. L. was rushed to the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Đồng Hới, Quảng Bình, in critical condition. His left hand was completely lost, his right hand severely mangled, and he sustained injuries to his face, stomach, and legs. X-rays revealed numerous foreign objects lodged in his internal organs, causing significant damage.
Doctors performed surgery to amputate his left hand, treat the injuries to his right hand, remove the foreign objects, and repair the internal injuries. Thankfully, after the surgery, the patient is now out of danger and undergoing recovery at the hospital.
According to his family, the accident stemmed from the boy’s creation of the explosive device by filling a metal can with explosives. This reckless act had devastating consequences.
This incident underscores the critical need for education and supervision of children regarding the dangers of homemade fireworks. Authorities urge parents to implement preventative measures and guide their children away from dangerous activities like creating homemade explosives.
