According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, around 20 products will be excluded from the retaliatory tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on April 2nd.

These products include smartphones, laptops, processing chips, memory chips, and hard drives.

This update comes just a day after President Trump unexpectedly postponed the new tariffs for 90 days for all countries and territories except China. He also simultaneously increased tariffs on Chinese imports to 125% in response to China’s increased tariffs on American products.

The record-high tariffs on Chinese imports have concerned American tech companies, as a significant portion of their products are manufactured and assembled in China.

However, the new move by the Trump administration has provided some relief to tech companies, although this decision is temporary and its duration is uncertain.

President Trump revealed that he will impose tariffs on specific goods, such as memory chips and mobile phones. This suggests that the temporary suspension of increased tariffs on technology imports might not last long.

The temporary suspension of tariffs on electronics will give tech companies more time to find solutions, including rapidly relocating a large number of products to the US for storage in case tariffs increase again.

Previously, Apple had rushed to import 1.5 million iPhones to the U.S. from late March. Major computer companies such as HP and Dell also imported high-end models priced over $3,000 into the U.S. to prepare for potential tariff increases.

The suspension of new tariffs on imported electronics is also good news for Americans, as they have more time to purchase electronics at the original prices before potential price increases due to retaliatory tariffs.
