Spas offering fat grafting and filler injections are increasingly popular, but procedures performed in unlicensed facilities pose significant risks. On March 12th, at a seminar titled “Updates in Aesthetic Facial Surgery,” Professor Phạm Thị Việt Dung, Head of the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Bach Mai Hospital, warned about serious infections following these beauty treatments.
Two Cases of Dangerous Infections
Two young women visiting Bach Mai Hospital were found with severe infections after fat grafting procedures on their cheeks at a spa. Lack of proper hygiene and sterility during the procedures led to infections, causing redness, pain, and the formation of pus-filled pockets. Patients required antibiotics and pus drainage to treat the infections.
Another case involved a 35-year-old Hanoi resident who developed an infection and facial asymmetry after filler injections for rejuvenation at an unlicensed aesthetic clinic. Within two days, the patient experienced facial swelling, redness, lumps, and a slight fever.
Expert Warning
Professor Phạm Thị Việt Dung stressed that fat grafting and filler injections should only be performed in licensed medical facilities, by qualified plastic surgeons. Spa or non-licensed aesthetic centers significantly increase the risk of infections.
Besides infections, undergoing filler or fat grafting procedures in unqualified facilities carries dangerous complications, including blood vessel blockages, strokes, blindness, and even death.
Choosing a Reputable Facility is Crucial
Experts advise caution when selecting an aesthetic clinic. Exaggerated claims about “stem cell technologies,” “multi-layered skin regeneration,” or “rejuvenation” should not lead to blind trust. Thoroughly research the facility, ensuring it holds proper licenses and employs experienced medical professionals.
Advances in Facial Aesthetic Surgery
At the seminar, American experts shared advancements in facial aesthetic surgery, including the use of 3D technology for highly accurate bone shaping. This technology facilitates the correction of congenital or acquired facial deformities and addresses aesthetic concerns related to aging. Optimized fat grafting techniques were also discussed, improving the survival rate of transplanted fat and enhancing the effectiveness of facial, periorbital, and nasolabial fold surgeries.
Conclusion
Thorough research and the selection of reputable medical facilities are crucial for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of beauty treatments like fat grafting and filler injections. Avoid unlicensed facilities to prevent serious complications. Be wary of exaggerated, unsubstantiated claims.
