Six fishermen were successfully treated for food poisoning after consuming red snapper on Song Tử Tây Island. The incident occurred on February 23rd and details are as follows.
Six fishermen poisoned after eating red snapper
Cause of Poisoning:
A week prior, Mr. Huỳnh Ngọc Xum’s fishing boat (Quảng Ngãi) caught a red snapper. The fish was prepared as a meal for the entire crew. Following consumption, six fishermen experienced symptoms including headache, fever, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Despite taking fever reducers, their health did not improve.
Rescue and Treatment:
Upon receiving the report, Song Tử Tây Island’s medical team swiftly initiated emergency care. Doctors diagnosed the poisoning as a toxin or infection from the red snapper. Two of the fishermen showed severe symptoms, including low blood pressure and slow pulse.
Doctors administered fluids and medication. Currently, the fishermen’s health has stabilized and they are being closely monitored. Four fishermen received medication and follow-up instructions on their boat, while two were treated at the island’s clinic.
Analysis of Poisoning Cause:
Research indicates that red snapper may accumulate toxins from harmful algae found in shallow reefs and warm waters. Consuming these contaminated algae can lead to serious poisoning in humans.
Conclusion:
The prompt response of the Song Tử Tây Island medical team ensured timely treatment for the six fishermen, preventing any serious complications. Being cautious about consuming potentially toxic seafood, especially red snapper, during fishing and preparation is crucial for maintaining health.
