On April 12th, images of two Hyundai cars, one white and one red, both with license plate 37A-718.60, surfaced on social media. The cars are reportedly parked near an apartment complex in Vinh city. The post quickly garnered thousands of interactions, shares, and comments from online users.

Many social media users suspected the red car was using a fraudulent license plate. They pointed out irregularities in the font and numbers on the plate, particularly the number “8,” which appeared to have a different font than the standard vehicle license plate font.

One social media user commented, “The red car’s plate is clearly a sticker. The number 8 is distorted and crooked. There’s no mistaking it.”

Another account shared, “The white car is likely the legitimate owner, while the red car might be a vehicle that was later registered using an old license plate. This is a common practice and should be addressed seriously.”

Currently, there is no official information from authorities about the authenticity and origin of the two vehicles. Regulations state that each vehicle is issued only one unique license plate. Using a fraudulent or duplicate license plate could lead to criminal charges if deemed an attempt at fraud or using falsified documents.

Citizens are hoping that authorities will quickly investigate and take action if violations are found, to ensure road safety and transparency in vehicle management.

Due to the increasing prevalence of fraudulent license plates, local authorities are urging a quick investigation into the identities of the vehicle owners and the origin of the duplicate license plates.

Experts advise that when purchasing used vehicles, buyers should thoroughly examine the paperwork, the vehicle’s history, and complete all required transfer processes. Citizens should report any suspicious vehicles to the relevant authorities immediately.

According to Article 16 of Decree 100/2019/NĐ-CP, operating a vehicle with a license plate not issued by a competent authority will result in administrative penalties of VND 4-6 million for individuals and VND 8-12 million for organizations. If there is evidence of falsifying national documents, criminal charges under Article 341 of the Criminal Code will apply, with potential prison sentences of up to 7 years.

Furthermore, using a fraudulent license plate to avoid legal responsibilities, such as evading traffic violations, committing illegal acts, or conducting opaque vehicle transactions is extremely dangerous.
