On May 12th, social media circulated a video showing a tech-ride driver assaulting a young man in Ho Chi Minh City. The incident reportedly occurred at 2:30 PM on May 10th, on Linh Trung Street in Thu Duc City.

The victim, a 2005-born individual named N., told Dan Tri news that he had ordered a ride from Thu Duc City to District 10. After arriving at his destination on Linh Trung Street, he found two tech-ride drivers waiting for him.

Checking his app, N. confirmed one driver, riding a Vision motorbike, was assigned to his ride. The other driver questioned why N. cancelled the trip. N. stated that he had not cancelled the trip and had only received a call from the Vision motorbike driver during his wait.

At this point, N. apologized and got into the Vision driver’s motorbike to leave, when the remaining driver unexpectedly grabbed a helmet and struck N. in the head.

“I was stunned, my face swelled and hurt, and my glasses broke. I had to go to the hospital the next day for check-ups. I think the driver cancelled because of an app error,” N. said.

After the incident, N. contacted the company where the driver worked to report the assault.

A representative from the tech-ride company said they had investigated and spoken with the driver. Their investigation determined that the incident was not due to an app error. Following the incident, the driver apologized and agreed to cover the victim’s medical expenses. Once resolved, the company also suspended the driver’s app access as per company policy.
