Vietnamese Pianist Nguyen Duc Kien Wins First Prize at Fujairah International Piano Competition

The 6th Fujairah International Piano Competition, held in late January in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has become a prestigious platform showcasing young musical talents from around the globe. Vietnam shone brightly with three significant awards, affirming the country’s growing reputation on the international music stage.

Outstanding Achievements of the Vietnamese Delegation

This year, the Vietnamese delegation achieved remarkable success. Võ Giáp Phong (National Academy of Music, Vietnam) won an Encouragement Award in Category A, Nguyễn Minh Việt (Hanoi College of Arts) secured third place in Category B, and notably, Nguyễn Đức Kiên – a gifted student from the TC 8/9 program at the National Academy of Music, Vietnam – brilliantly claimed first place in Category C.

The Talent and Confidence of Nguyen Duc Kien

Nguyễn Đức Kien, a 16-year-old prodigy, captivated the jury with his masterful technique, refined musical sensitivity, and confident stage presence. In Category C, Kien outperformed 24 formidable competitors from countries with strong musical traditions such as China, Russia, the USA, France, and Egypt to secure the top position.

Born in 2008, Nguyễn Đức Kien is no stranger to the classical music community. In 2023, he reached the finals of the Rachmaninoff Competition for young talents in Russia, marking a consistent journey of dedication to his musical passion.

Associate Professor Nguyen Huy Phuong, with over 20 years of teaching experience at the Piano Department of the National Academy of Music, Vietnam, and also Nguyen Duc Kien’s mentor, expressed pride in his student’s achievements:
