Courageous Actions and the Price Paid
In 2021, Qiu Shaochun bravely intervened to stop a man who was attacking his ex-wife with a knife and a car. He jumped out of his vehicle and rushed to help, but was stabbed three times before police could subdue the attacker. His courageous act earned him the affectionate nickname “Fat Brother of Nanjing” from locals.
However, the incident left him with severe health issues. Qiu suffered from loss of bowel control for a year and had to use an artificial colostomy bag. Despite this, he has never regretted his decision.
Continuous Challenges in Life
Qiu’s life continued to be marked by tragedy. In September 2023, his wife, Liu Jia, gave birth to a baby girl, but the child passed away just 21 days later due to congenital heart disease. To cover medical expenses, Qiu launched a fundraising campaign on social media, receiving generous support from the community. After the child’s passing, he returned unused funds or donated them to other charitable organizations.
Tragedy struck again three months later when Qiu’s father died of cancer. In April 2024, Qiu was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. Life seemed filled with overwhelming difficulties.

In 2025, Qiu and his family received good news when his wife became pregnant again. On social media, he shared: “This is the best start to 2025 and the greatest gift for our wedding anniversary on January 9. The ultrasound shows everything is fine. I hope my wife has a smooth pregnancy and we welcome a healthy baby.”
Currently, Qiu runs a snack shop at a popular tourist spot in Nanjing. News of his wife’s pregnancy has drawn significant attention online, with numerous well-wishes sent to their family. One user commented, “What wonderful news! Best wishes to your wife and baby.” Another wrote, “Good things will come to those who are kind.”
