Sáng 3/2, on the first day back at work after the Lunar New Year holiday, major roads in Hanoi saw a return of heavy traffic. From 7 AM, vehicles poured into central areas, causing localized congestion at several hotspots.
The Tran Duy Hung – Hoang Minh Giam intersection was one of the earliest hotspots of the new workweek. Long lines of cars and motorcycles moved slowly, creating a familiar scene for the start of the week.
The Trung Hoa tunnel (Cau Giay) also experienced high traffic volumes, making passage more difficult.
Traffic Conditions on Major Roads
On Tran Duy Hung and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets, from 7:30 AM, traffic gradually increased. Vehicles moved slowly in line, especially on Lang Street, which often experiences congestion during peak hours.
Lang Street, one of Hanoi’s main arteries, also saw a return of heavy traffic.
Nguyen Trai Area: A Traffic Hotspot
On Nguyen Trai Street (Thanh Xuan District), from 7:30 AM, traffic heading into the city center became dense. At the Nguyen Xien – Khuat Duy Tien intersection, although there were many vehicles, congestion was only localized at red lights.
By 8 AM, the influx of vehicles made Nguyen Trai Street nearly impassable. Thousands of vehicles struggled to move as people returned to work after the Tet holiday.
Public Reaction
Ms. Nguyen Bich Ha (Khương Trung, Thanh Xuan District) shared, “During the recent Tet holiday, traffic here was quite smooth, but now with people returning from provinces to the capital, it’s congested again as usual.”
Many people opted for public transport like the elevated train to avoid congestion and cold weather of 16 degrees Celsius in early spring.
Conclusion
On the first day back at work after the Lunar New Year holiday, Hanoi witnessed a return of heavy traffic on major roads. While some localized congestion occurred, overall traffic was well-managed. People are encouraged to use public transportation to reduce congestion and ensure safe travel.
