On February 2nd, in a post on Facebook, the newspaper Khaosod quoted Tuấn Hải as saying: “The Thai League does not help improve players’ skills. If I have the opportunity to play abroad, I will give it my all. As for Southeast Asian leagues, I am not interested, especially the Thai League.”
Khaosod misquoted Tuấn Hải’s statement, causing misunderstandings (Screenshot).
In the comments section, many Thai fans criticized Tuấn Hải’s supposed remarks with comments like: “Thai clubs don’t care about him,” and “He really has delusions of grandeur.”
This incident further strained relations between Vietnamese and Thai football. In the 2024 AFF Cup final, Tuấn Hải scored a goal that helped Vietnam secure the championship.
However, these reports were false as Tuấn Hải never made such statements. The Vietnamese striker denied the information.
Hà Nội FC issued a clarification: “Hello everyone. On behalf of Phạm Tuấn Hải, we confirm that he did not make any statements comparing Thai football to any other country as mentioned in the article.

Previously, Tuấn Hải responded to an interview, expressing his desire to play abroad: “I still have shortcomings and haven’t fulfilled my dream of playing overseas. Achieving success abroad is what I aspire to. I hope to make a breakthrough so that Vietnamese players can be more confident when playing abroad, contributing to the development of Vietnamese football.
We urge everyone to stay calm and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause tension between fans of the two countries. We hope to work together to support the development of Southeast Asian football.
