Chế độ BHXH của người lao động mắc bệnh hiểm nghèo trong năm 2025

Employees diagnosed with critical illnesses often face numerous challenges during treatment and recovery. To support them, Vietnam’s Social Security (BHXH) has implemented several advantageous policies, effective from July 1, 2025. This article will help you understand the latest regulations regarding social security benefits for employees with critical illnesses.

Social Security Benefits Before July 1, 2025

According to Articles 24 to 29 of the 2014 Social Security Law, employees with critical illnesses are entitled to sick leave benefits for up to 180 days. During this period, their benefit amount is calculated at 75% of their social security contribution salary.

If after 180 days the employee still requires continued treatment, they will receive sick leave benefits at a lower rate. The total duration of these benefits cannot exceed the time they have contributed to social security. Additionally, employees also receive free health insurance (BHYT) during their leave.

Notably, if an employee returns to work within the first 30 days but their health has not recovered, they may take additional recuperation leave of 5 to 10 days per year.

Social Security Benefits From July 1, 2025

Effective from July 1, 2025, the 2024 Social Security Law will come into force. The regulations on sick leave benefits for employees with critical illnesses remain largely similar to those in the 2014 Social Security Law, but there are some significant differences.

Employees with critical illnesses will be entitled to sick leave benefits for a maximum period in one year, based on their working conditions and years of social security contributions. The benefit amount remains at 75% of their social security contribution salary.

If the maximum duration of sick leave benefits in one year is exhausted but the employee still needs continued treatment, they will receive sick leave benefits at a reduced rate. This ensures that employees continue to receive necessary support throughout their treatment process.

Conclusion

Social security benefits for employees with critical illnesses are a crucial policy that ensures rights and financial support during treatment. With changes effective from July 1, 2025, employees will enjoy more benefits, particularly regarding the duration and amount of sick leave benefits. This not only alleviates financial burdens but also provides favorable conditions for employees to focus on treatment and recovery.
