On January 21, Gia Trung Prison under the Ministry of Public Security in Mang Yang District, Gia Lai Province, organized a special New Year’s dinner for 40 well-behaved inmates and over 80 of their relatives. This annual event aims to foster family connections and encourage positive rehabilitation efforts.

Humanitarian Activities Strengthen Family Bonds
The New Year’s dinner not only brings joy and reunion but also provides inmates with the opportunity to meet their loved ones after long periods of separation. One notable story is that of Mrs. H’Ving H’Chuk, who traveled 200km early in the morning to visit her husband, inmate Ksor Oi, at Camp K3.
Inmate Ksor Oi shared, “Previously, I was unaware and broke the law. Thanks to the dedicated education from prison officers, I have recognized my mistakes and am determined to rehabilitate well to return to my family soon.” This was his first time reuniting with his family during the Tet holiday, which gave him added motivation to complete his remaining rehabilitation period successfully.
Policies Supporting Reintegration into Society
This event goes beyond organizing a family dinner; it includes various practical support programs. According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Mai, Deputy Warden of Gia Trung Prison, the primary goal of the New Year’s dinner is to motivate the inmates’ rehabilitation efforts and help them reintegrate into society more easily.

Additionally, the prison offers vocational training programs to boost inmates’ confidence as they return to normal life. Inmate Le Qui Phong expressed gratitude towards the prison staff who have consistently cared for and supported them throughout their rehabilitation.
Financial Support for Inmates in Need
To alleviate the difficulties faced by inmates with special circumstances, Gia Trung Prison has allocated funds from its Golden Heart Fund. The total financial assistance amounts to 27 million VND, benefiting 181 inmates in need and 9 children of inmates currently serving their sentences.

Currently, Gia Trung Prison manages over 3,500 inmates and has reduced the sentence terms for over 1,900 inmates, granting early release to 61 inmates from December 2023 to December 2024.
