On the afternoon of January 30 (the second day of Tet), a severe traffic accident occurred on National Highway 21 in Nam Dinh City, Nam Dinh Province. The incident resulted in 7 deaths at the scene and 2 people severely injured, currently under treatment at hospitals.
According to information from the Nam Dinh Provincial Police, around 3 PM on the same day, a 7-seater car with license plate number 30G-156xx, driven by Mrs. N.T.D. (born in 1964, residing in Ba Dinh, Hanoi), was traveling from Co Le Town (Truc Ninh District) towards Nam Dinh City. There were a total of 9 people on the vehicle.
When the car reached the Nam Van Ward area (Nam Dinh City), it suddenly swerved to the right, hit the road barrier, and plunged into the canal beside the road. The accident happened abruptly and did not involve any other vehicles.
The consequences of the accident were devastating: 7 people died on the spot, and the remaining 2 were seriously injured and immediately taken to Nam Dinh General Hospital and Nam Dinh Children’s Hospital for emergency care.
Upon receiving the report, leaders from the Provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee of Nam Dinh Province arrived at the scene to direct rescue operations. Maximum efforts were made by functional forces to mitigate the aftermath and ensure smooth traffic flow on National Highway 21.
The provincial leadership also requested hospitals to focus all available equipment and personnel on treating the injured victims. Additionally, the Provincial Police instructed traffic police to coordinate with related units to regulate traffic and ensure safety for people and vehicles passing through the accident site.
To share in the grief of the victims’ families, Nam Dinh Province decided to provide a support fund of 10 million VND for each deceased victim and 5 million VND for each injured person.
This tragic event once again serves as a wake-up call regarding traffic awareness, especially during the Tet holiday when traffic volume increases significantly. It is hoped that the painful lessons learned from this incident will help raise caution and strict adherence to traffic safety regulations among everyone.
