Publicizing Illness—Tactic or Social Responsibility?
In a lengthy post on social media, Zhao Luosi acknowledged that her decision to disclose her illness was not just for personal reasons but also aimed at promoting awareness within the community. She expressed her desire to have done this nearly ten years ago but lacked the courage.
The actress stated, “I want to use marketing and communication methods to help people understand depression and other psychological issues correctly. When society has a better understanding, there will be more supportive voices for those facing these illnesses.”
According to Zhao Luosi, sharing her healing journey not only boosts her own confidence but also inspires others to confront their pain. However, this explanation sparked mixed reactions from the public.
Negative Reactions from Online Communities
While Zhao Luosi’s initial intentions were viewed positively, many netizens accused her of exploiting her illness for attention. Some comments harshly criticized her continuous posts about her treatment process as merely seeking pity from the public.
In response, Zhao Luosi sincerely apologized: “I inadvertently overlooked the feelings of some people by sharing my journey. I truly apologize if it caused anyone discomfort.”

Overcoming Depression and Career Pressure
Zhao Luosi’s journey began in late 2024 when she was hospitalized in critical condition due to severe malnutrition, inability to walk or communicate, and a weight of only 37 kg. The cause was diagnosed as depression, mental disorders, and high work pressure.
She revealed that her psychological issues stemmed from childhood traumas, including school bullying, physical abuse by a senior colleague, blackmail by her manager, the loss of loved ones, and public scrutiny. All these factors eroded both her physical and mental well-being.
Despite suffering since 2019, Zhao Luosi remained silent out of fear of being criticized for faking illness. By the end of 2024, her health had deteriorated significantly, forcing her to take a break from her acting career to focus on treatment.
Resilient Recovery and Return
After more than a month of intensive treatment, Zhao Luosi showed significant improvement. She could walk with crutches, communicate normally, and even attend a commercial event in Chengdu on January 25th.

Currently, she still needs to continue treatment for another 3-4 months. Doctors have prescribed hormone-regulating medication and encouraged her to participate in volunteer activities to improve her mental health.

Zhao Luosi’s story is a testament to overcoming adversity with resilience and determination. Despite facing criticism, she stands firm in her beliefs and spreads positive messages about mental health. This not only helps her find light in her life but also contributes to building a more understanding and compassionate society.
