Top 15 Most Valuable Players in Southeast Asia
The top six positions in this ranking are held by Indonesian players. Specifically, Mees Hilgers leads with a valuation of 9 million euros, followed by Kevin Diks (4.5 million euros), Jay Idzes (3 million euros), Calvin Verdonk (2.5 million euros), Marten Paes (1.8 million euros), and Thom Haye (1.5 million euros). These are all players who have established themselves in Europe, with Jay Idzes even playing regularly in Serie A for Venezia.

The subsequent positions go to Sandy Walsh (Indonesia, 1 million euros), Dion Cools (Malaysia, 800,000 euros), Supachok Sarachat (Thailand, 800,000 euros), Suphanat Mueanta (800,000 euros), Jordi Amat (Indonesia, 750,000 euros), Gerrit Holtmann (Philippines, 700,000 euros), and Nguyễn Xuân Son (Vietnam, 700,000 euros).

Nguyễn Xuân Son’s Potential to Rise Further
With consistent performance, Nguyễn Xuân Son could become the first Vietnamese player to reach a 1 million euro valuation according to Transfermarkt. Additionally, several other Vietnamese players have seen their values increase after the 2024 AFF Cup, including Tiến Linh (350,000 euros), Duy Mạnh (325,000 euros), Thành Chung (300,000 euros), Xuân Mạnh (300,000 euros), and Bùi Vĩ Hào (300,000 euros). However, Hoàng Đức’s value has dropped to 300,000 euros due to playing in Vietnam’s second division.
The current total valuation of the Vietnamese national team is 7.6 million euros, slightly less than Thailand’s 8.4 million euros. Leading the region is Indonesia, with a team of naturalized players valued at nearly 28 million euros. This number is expected to rise further as Indonesia continues to naturalize more players in the future.
Conclusion
Nguyễn Xuân Son has proven his worth and become Vietnam’s most valuable player. However, to compete with other Southeast Asian stars, he and his teammates must continue to improve their performances. Vietnam’s national team also needs a long-term strategy to narrow the gap with regional rivals.
