Currently, Song Hye Kyo is busy promoting her latest film project, Dark Nuns. In recent press events, the South Korean actress appeared with a more mature look, featuring light makeup and a simple short hairstyle.
Her new appearance has sparked controversy in South Korea. While some lament the loss of her iconic beauty, others commend her dedication to her craft, believing she is sacrificing her looks for her role.

“She has entered middle age, and aging is inevitable. She may not be as young as before, but her features remain harmonious,” and “Women’s beauty in middle age lies in their confidence and achievements,” are some of the comments from fans.
This is not the first time Song Hye Kyo has faced body shaming on social media. When her drama The Glory aired in 2023, she was criticized for looking much older due to her gaunt appearance and minimal makeup.
In this role, she played a victim of school violence, carrying deep emotional scars and doubts about love and happiness. The character earned her several awards and marked a significant transformation for the “beauty icon.”
In an interview earlier this year, Song Hye Kyo admitted that she has noticed her age but has no intention of seeking new technologies to preserve her youth.

“Now, at 40, I am more prepared. I can easily see the difference between my appearance and that of younger colleagues. Now, I must focus on acting well because I can no longer rely solely on my looks,” she said.
Working in a high-pressure industry, Song Hye Kyo reminds herself to stay strong and resilient when facing rumors or negative comments.
“Now, malicious rumors and comments don’t affect me as much as they used to. But when they target my family, my heart truly breaks,” the Descendants of the Sun star revealed.

This year, Song Hye Kyo has two highly anticipated works: the film Dark Nuns and the TV series Slowly and Intensely alongside actor Gong Yoo.
Dark Nuns premiered in January and quickly became one of the most anticipated films of the year. In it, Song Hye Kyo plays Junia, a nun who participates in a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a demon.
Dark Nuns is the female version of the hit film The Priests, released in 2015, starring Kim Yun Suk and Kang Dong Won. Dark Nuns became the film with the most advance tickets sold in South Korea.
Slowly and Intensely began filming in mid-January. Written by renowned screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung, known for hits like That Winter, the Wind Blows, It’s Okay, That’s Love, Dear My Friends, and Our Blues.

Slowly and Intensely is Song Hye Kyo’s third collaboration with screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung. She previously starred in two of her works: The World They Live In (2008) and That Winter, the Wind Blows (2013).
