Tet At Ty 2025 has concluded with positive signals in the transportation sector. According to statistics from the Vietnam Highway Administration, traffic volume on major highways in the southern region significantly increased, but traffic jams and accidents were better controlled compared to the previous year.

Increased Traffic Volume but Order Maintained

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of the IV Highway Management Division, stated that traffic volume on entry highways to Ho Chi Minh City increased by more than 10% compared to last Tet. Particularly, during the days before Tet and on the 3rd and 4th days of the lunar new year, traffic density reached its peak. Notably, despite the increase in vehicles, traffic congestion was noticeably reduced due to improved compliance with traffic laws by drivers.

Mr. Thanh emphasized: “This year, thanks to Decree 168, which imposes stricter fines, drivers are less likely to use emergency lanes even when traffic is heavy.” The fine for using emergency lanes has been increased from VND 3-5 million to VND 4-6 million, contributing to better traffic awareness.

Localized Traffic Jams Still Occur

Despite this improvement, localized traffic jams were still reported due to the surge in vehicle numbers. Highways such as Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay, Cam Lam – Vinh Hao, and ferry crossings at Dien Khao and Dai Ngai experienced these issues. The most congested area was Rach My Bridge toll station, where traffic police from Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces had to intervene by rerouting traffic and temporarily lifting tolls during peak hours.

Significant Reduction in Traffic Accidents

Another bright spot during this Tet was the notable improvement in traffic safety. In the IV management area, only 18 accidents were recorded, mainly due to vehicles not maintaining safe distances on highways, leading to chain collisions. No serious accidents occurred in the southern provinces throughout the holiday period.

Expectations for Highway Expansion Projects

Leaders of the IV Highway Management Division expressed hope that the expansion of key highways like Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong and Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay will further alleviate traffic congestion. This will not only reduce pressure on the transportation system but also provide greater convenience for residents during upcoming holidays.

Conclusion

Overall, traffic conditions during Tet At Ty 2025 showed significant improvements. Enhanced enforcement and community awareness helped reduce both congestion and accidents. We hope that future infrastructure investments will continue to improve Vietnam’s transportation network, ensuring safer and more convenient travel for the public.
