On February 10, the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee held a key cadre conference. At the meeting, the provincial party committee announced the decision of the Central Party Secretariat to allow Mr. Pham Thien Nghiya, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province, to retire early in accordance with his wishes.
According to the decision, Mr. Nghiya will retire on February 15, with retirement benefits implemented as per current regulations.

At the meeting, Mr. Nghiya expressed his gratitude to the Party Committee, relevant agencies, officials, and staff of Dong Thap Province for their support during his tenure.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to all colleagues who have accompanied me in fulfilling our assigned tasks. I hope you will continue to work hard and contribute further to the development of Dong Thap in this new era,” Mr. Nghiya said.
Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee Le Quoc Phong praised Mr. Nghiya as a responsible cadre who was deeply involved with grassroots issues and his areas of responsibility. Mr. Nghiya also demonstrated creativity in attracting investment, connecting businesses, and closely engaging with local areas, contributing significantly to the comprehensive development of Dong Thap.

As of now, Mr. Pham Thien Nghiya is the first provincial-level chairman in the country to resign early and receive approval.
Mr. Pham Thien Nghiya, 59 years old, hails from Dien Yen Commune, Lap Vo District, Dong Thap Province, holds a Master’s degree in Economics.
Mr. Nghiya has held various positions in Dong Thap, including Deputy Director of the Provincial People’s Committee Office, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Secretary of Thap Muoi District Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Internal Affairs Commission, and Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.
Mr. Nghiya was elected Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province in December 2020.
