The accident took place at 3 PM on January 30 (the second day of Tet), on National Highway 21 in Nam Dinh City. A car with license plate 30G-156.67 suddenly plunged into a drainage ditch, resulting in seven deaths and two injuries. This is one of the most severe traffic accidents in recent times.

Upon receiving the information, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính directed warm condolences and deep sympathies to the families of the victims. He also requested the leaders of Nam Dinh Province and the police force to promptly arrive at the scene to oversee the response efforts.

The Ministry of Transport was also directed to review and enhance traffic organization on National Highway 21 and similar routes. Measures to improve the safety of transportation infrastructure systems were prioritized.
