On January 25, ahead of the traditional Tet holiday, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính met with Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hà Vĩ. This meeting marked a significant step forward in the bilateral relationship, with strong commitments to promote landmark projects.
Positive Developments in Vietnam-China Relations
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and Ambassador Hà Vĩ reviewed the notable achievements in bilateral relations in 2024. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive progress, particularly in economic, trade, and cultural exchanges.
The Prime Minister emphasized that developing friendly relations and cooperation with China is a consistent policy of Vietnam. This is not only an objective requirement but also a strategic priority in Vietnam’s independent, autonomous, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy.

Future Commitments for Cooperation
Ambassador Hà Vĩ affirmed that the Chinese Communist Party and government always value relations with Vietnam. The ambassador also congratulated Vietnam on its impressive development achievements in 2024, especially overcoming many difficulties and challenges.
Both sides expressed joy over the successful phone call between General Secretary Tô Lâm and General Secretary, President Xi Jinping of China. This call set a positive tone and enhanced strategic direction, providing new impetus for relations between the two parties and countries during the Year of Cultural Exchange between Vietnam and China in 2025.
Implementing Major Symbolic Projects
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính proposed maintaining regular high-level meetings and enhancing the effectiveness of Party, government, and National Assembly/People’s Congress mechanisms. He also highlighted effective cooperation among ministries and encouraged localities to boost exchanges and collaboration.
The Prime Minister suggested strengthening practical cooperation in various fields, particularly in transportation connectivity. He aimed to effectively implement the agreement between the two governments regarding the three railway lines: Lào Cai – Hanoi – Haiphong, Lang Son – Hanoi, and Mong Cai – Halong – Haiphong.

Regarding maritime issues, the Prime Minister urged both sides to strictly adhere to the common understanding and the “Agreement on Basic Principles Guiding the Settlement of Maritime Issues Between Vietnam and China.” He emphasized the importance of respecting each other’s legitimate rights and interests and resolving disputes through peaceful means.
Ambassador Hà Vĩ agreed with the Prime Minister’s directives and affirmed that China is ready to enhance strategic exchanges, strengthen political trust, and intensify practical cooperation in various fields. He also suggested effectively implementing activities for the Year of Cultural Exchange between China and Vietnam to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations.
