On the first days of the new year, Hanoi’s Traffic Police (Traffic Police) have implemented strong measures to ensure traffic order and safety, and to strictly handle violations, particularly driving under the influence of alcohol. This is one of the main causes of traffic accidents.

Alcohol Violations During Tet

On January 29 (the first day of Tet), Team 6 of Hanoi’s Traffic Police conducted alcohol level checks on Cau Giay Street in Cau Giay District. Within just two hours, the authorities identified and handled nearly 10 cases of alcohol violations.

One notable case involved Mr. Nguyen Ngoc D., born in 1995, residing in Bac Tu Liem. Mr. D. was found with an alcohol level of 0.129 mg/L in his breath while riding a motorcycle. He admitted to drinking beer during his Tet visits. Another case involved Mr. Le Quang B., born in 1975, residing in Hai Ba Trung District, who also violated the alcohol limit at below 0.25 mg/L in his breath.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Chien, head of Team 6, many residents tend to be careless when driving during the Tet holidays. Controlling alcohol levels not only aims to enforce regulations but also serves as a preventive measure to raise public awareness and avoid tragic accidents.

Enforcement Results During the Tet Holiday

According to statistics from Hanoi’s Traffic Police Department, over the first four days of Tet (from January 25 to January 29), the city’s Traffic Police handled a total of 961 violations, impounded 472 vehicles, revoked 35 driver’s licenses, and docked points for 149 cases. Among these, 406 were alcohol-related violations, 42 were speeding violations, 240 involved not wearing helmets, 105 were for improper parking, and 16 were for running red lights.

Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia, Head of Hanoi’s Traffic Police, stated that Traffic Police will maintain full staffing throughout the Tet holiday period. This ensures smooth traffic flow, meets the travel needs of citizens, and enhances enforcement to prevent traffic accidents, especially those related to alcohol consumption.

Conclusion

Enhancing alcohol control during Tet not only helps reduce traffic accidents but also raises public awareness about traffic laws. Everyone should conscientiously follow traffic safety regulations to protect themselves and their community. Drive safely and responsibly, especially during holiday periods.
