Miss Universe Mexico was the first to leave the auditorium, followed by reigning Miss Universe Victoria Theilvig and many other representatives.
According to Missosology, the reason stemmed from Mr. Nawat’s harsh criticism upon discovering that some contestants were using their own makeup teams, which was considered a violation of the organizing committee’s rules.

The tense confrontation escalated when Mr. Nawat questioned the Mexican beauty about her refusal to participate in the photoshoot designated by the organizers, yet agreeing to attend an event by partner Telemundo.
When asked to remain silent or leave, the Mexican representative voluntarily exited the room, witnessed by over 100 other contestants. Reigning Miss Universe Victoria Theilvig also stood up and left, expressing her disappointment and declaring she would not return to the event.
Some contestants who chose to stay included representatives from France, Thailand, South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Belgium. Meanwhile, most Latin beauties such as Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Colombia… along with many African representatives, left the hall.

The incident occurred just days after the competition began, raising concerns about the organizing committee’s management capabilities. On beauty forums, fans expressed worry that the competition might be disrupted or canceled if the conflict remained unresolved.
Previously, on November 3rd, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) and the host country’s unit, Miss Universe Thailand (MUT), had a dispute when MUO announced the cancellation of the voting results for the “Special Dinner and Chat” program launched by MUT.
After Vietnam’s representative – Huong Giang – made it to the leading group, MUO declared the activity “invalid, not within the scope of the competition.” In response, Mr. Nawat criticized MUO and accused one of the sponsors of being involved in online gambling.

On November 4th, MUO further released a statement asserting that the Miss Universe 2025 results would only be determined based on contestants’ performance in the official competition rounds: Closed-door interviews, national costume presentation, evening gown presentation, and swimsuit presentation.
The Miss Universe 2025 competition runs from November 2nd to November 21st, bringing together over 100 global contestants. This year’s season features many innovations, accepting transgender contestants, married women, mothers, and having no age limit.
Ahead of the competition, beauty specialized website Missosology predicted Huong Giang had the potential to enter the top 20, alongside prominent representatives from Thailand, the Philippines, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Australia, and Ivory Coast.
Before the official competition, MUO announced the appointment of Mr. Mario Búcaro (from Guatemala) as CEO, replacing Ms. Anne Jakrajutatip (from Thailand) who resigned on May 20th.
“The Miss Universe Organization warmly welcomes Mario Búcaro to his new role and looks forward to an exciting new chapter of growth, innovation, and global impact,” the announcement stated.

Following this appointment, Ms. Anne remains the owner of Miss Universe with a 58% stake but no longer holds executive power.
The transgender Thai billionaire garnered attention when she purchased the Miss Universe organization for 20 million USD in 2022. However, after two years of managing the beauty pageant, the transgender billionaire faced the risk of bankruptcy. Her JKN Group filed for bankruptcy/business rehabilitation in November 2023.
Before her resignation, Ms. Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip partnered with Mr. Nawat, appointing him as the executive director of the competition. Mr. Nawat and the Miss Grand International team were responsible for organizing Miss Universe 2025, directly handling all production and marketing aspects of the competition.
