A Mother’s Account of the Helpless Moment Rushing Her Convulsing Child to the Hospital

Lời kể của người mẹ về phút bất lực khi đưa con co giật đi cấp cứu

Around 6:30 PM on February 13, Ms. P.T. (35 years old, from Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) had just finished work when she received news that her nearly 3-year-old son was running a high fever, experiencing convulsions, his body turning blue, and his teeth clenched shut. Ms. T., along with family members, rushed the child to the emergency room.

Right at rush hour, traffic at the intersection of Le Van Luong – Hoang Minh Giam (heading towards To Hieu Street, Ha Dong District) was heavily congested, with the entire road gridlocked.

The mother had no choice but to get out of the car, run across the street, and ask a man for help to take her to a clinic on Tran Duy Hung Street. However, this clinic only provided consultations and did not have facilities to admit patients for treatment.

“I was extremely panicked, trying my best to calm myself down to find another hospital,” Ms. T. recalled the moment when bystanders directed her to a hospital about 4-5 km away.

The mother then asked the same man to take her to a nearby traffic police booth at the intersection of Nguyen Chanh – Tran Duy Hưng to seek help, hoping to get her child to the hospital as quickly as possible.

At that moment, an officer from Traffic Police Team No. 6 used a specialized motorcycle to transport the mother and child to the hospital.

“The road from the underpass to the residential streets was packed with vehicles. All around, it was bumper-to-bumper traffic without any gaps. The siren kept blaring, and I kept shouting, asking people to make way for us to pass through,” Ms. T. recounted.

Thanks to the assistance of the traffic police, the mother and child safely reached the hospital. The boy was admitted and diagnosed with acute rhinitis, tonsillitis, and viral fever.

A day later, after her son’s condition stabilized, Ms. T. posted on social media to search for her benefactors and express gratitude to the motorbike driver and the two traffic police officers.

“Thanks to you, my child was able to reach the hospital safely and promptly, getting through the critical moment. To me, you are all real-life heroes,” Ms. T. wrote.

Major Nguyễn Tiến Cảnh, an officer from Traffic Police Team No. 6 (Hanoi Traffic Police Department), was the one who directly transported Ms. T. and her child to the emergency room.

Officer Cảnh recalled how the mother continued crying and complained of pain from being bitten on the finger by her child during the seizure. Once they reached the emergency entrance, she quickly carried her child inside to see the doctor.

After ensuring the child was safely taken to the emergency room, Major Cảnh felt relieved and returned to his post to manage the traffic flow.

Upon reading Ms. T.’s post searching for her benefactors, Major Nguyễn Tiến Cảnh and his colleague Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Dũng were surprised. At noon on the same day, the two officers visited the hospital to check on the child.

During the unexpected meeting, Ms. T. broke down in tears once again, expressing her heartfelt thanks to the two “heroes.”

“I am both moved and reassured seeing my son recovering positively,” she shared.
