AI (Artificial Intelligence) is becoming an irreversible global trend, and Vietnam is no exception. From addressing specific national challenges to boosting labor productivity, AI is gradually establishing itself across various sectors.
The Development of AI in Vietnam
At the 6th Make in Vietnam Forum, Mr. Nguyễn Khắc Lịch, Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry (Ministry of Information and Communications), emphasized that AI is everywhere, making everything smarter. In fact, some users interact with OpenAI’s chatbots more frequently than with Google. This highlights the profound changes in how people engage with technology.

One of the strategic technologies of AI in Vietnam is the development of large Vietnamese language models. While the keyword of 2024 is generative AI, the theme for 2025 will be Agentic AI—a form of AI capable of automating tasks, working independently, and even replacing humans in certain roles.
AI Applications in Various Fields
Boosting Labor Productivity
Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Huy, Head of the Digital Transformation Board at MobiFone, shared that the company is developing virtual assistants to increase worker productivity by 25-30%. As MobiFone transitions from a traditional telecom provider to a tech company, it has implemented numerous AI solutions in areas such as telecommunications, education, agriculture, and tourism.
Socializing AI
Ms. Phan Thị Thanh Ngọc, Deputy Director of the AI Application Consulting Division at VNPT AI, noted that advancements in AI are making technology more accessible to users. “By the end of 2023, Vietnam ranked 5th in ASEAN and 59th globally in government readiness for AI. This reflects the government’s efforts to develop AI in Vietnam,” Ms. Ngọc said.
Solving Specific Problems
AI is widely used in smart city management, urban planning, enhancing the efficiency of integrated operation centers (IOC), improving security and traffic management, and processing data to detect social insurance fraud. By applying AI to address specific industry challenges, significant improvements can be achieved. Additionally, AI reduces repetitive daily tasks for workers.
Legal Document Review
Another challenge being tackled by Vietnamese enterprises using “Made in Vietnam” technology is the review of legal documents to identify overlaps and inconsistencies. According to the EuroCham Business Confidence Index report, nearly 60% of foreign direct investment (FDI) companies face administrative difficulties due to overlapping responsibilities.
The CMC Technology Research Institute has combined ontology technology, large language models, and natural language processing to build the Legal Document Review Assistant (CLS) system. This system includes four key functions: conflict detection, difference identification, clause comparison, and effectiveness review.
Conclusion
AI is not just a global trend but also a significant opportunity for Vietnam to develop and catch up with the world. From increasing labor productivity to solving specific problems, AI is becoming an integral part of daily life and work. With proper attention and investment, Vietnam can become a leading AI nation in ASEAN and globally.
