Ambulance Accident Due to Red Light: Shared Responsibility

Tài xế xe Fortuner quyết không nhường đường xe cấp cứu vì "vướng" đèn đỏ

On February 12, leaders of the Vinh City Police Department spoke with Dân trí reporters regarding a video clip that went viral on social media showing an ambulance repeatedly honking its horn but being refused passage by a Fortuner driver at a red light. The police department has since summoned both drivers to their headquarters for clarification.

According to the leader of the Vinh City Police Department, the primary fault lies with the ambulance. The ambulance had initially signaled the preceding vehicle (an Altis at the time of the incident) to yield, but it did not. As a result, the ambulance had to swerve into the right-turn lane to proceed.

“When the ambulance signals to yield, the driver should move in their own lane (straight ahead). Once the ambulance has activated its siren and flashing lights, vehicles in the same direction must yield,” explained the leader of the Vinh City Police Department.

“The ambulance had all necessary permits and transport orders. After summoning the involved vehicles for questioning, we only issued reminders,” added the leader of the Vinh City Police Department.

As previously reported by Dân trí, on February 10, a video clip circulating on social media captured the scene of an ambulance using its emergency signals to request passage but being blocked by a Fortuner driver who refused to give way at a red light.

The clip was recorded from another car stopped at a red light at the Le Nin Avenue intersection in Vinh City, Nghe An Province.

Following the video’s release, many people expressed disapproval of the Fortuner driver’s actions, arguing that yielding to an ambulance is essential in emergencies.
