Renowned artist Tiến Quang (Quang Teo) shared fascinating insights with reporters about his role as Mõ Làng in the film Đèn âm hồn. This unique role brought him numerous unforgettable experiences, from perilous cliffside shoots in Cao Bằng to the harsh challenges posed by unpredictable weather.
Unforgettable Memories on Set
Reflecting on his experience with Đèn âm hồn, Quang Teo revealed that he accepted the project to explore a fresh and challenging role. Despite his busy schedule, the actor dedicated time to complete this demanding part. One of his most memorable moments was an accident during the intense chase scene up a rocky cliff in Cao Bằng.
“While running up the cliff, I stepped on a sharp rock and cut my foot. Blood soaked my shoe, but since the scene wasn’t finished, I had to endure the pain to complete it,” Quang Teo recalled. After the director called “cut,” he was rushed to Trùng Khánh District Medical Center for stitches late at night.
“The nurse recognized me and was thrilled, chatting about comedy shows she had watched. By the fourth stitch, the anesthesia wore off, so I had to endure more pain,” the comedian humorously shared.
Challenges During Filming
It wasn’t just Quang Teo; the entire crew faced numerous difficulties while working on Đèn âm hồn. To recreate a Northern Vietnamese village setting, the team built an entirely new village. However, the harsh weather in Cao Bằng caused significant disruptions. Heavy rain flooded the filming area, forcing the crew to wait for the waters to recede.
“We completed the final scenes just three days before the village was completely submerged. Each shooting day stretched from early morning to late at night, but everyone gave their all to deliver the best product,” Quang Teo said.
Humanistic Messages and Film Appeal
According to Quang Teo, Đèn âm hồn is not merely a horror film but also conveys meaningful messages about spiritual culture and family values. Director Hoàng Nam skillfully integrated elements of ancestor worship, karma, and the connection between the living and the dead into the storyline.
“The film draws inspiration from the classic tale The Story of the Girl from Nam Xương in Nguyễn Dữ’s Truyền kỳ mạn lục, adding folk horror elements. This makes the film resonate deeply with Vietnamese audiences,” Quang Teo noted.
Outstanding Success at the Box Office
Released late in the Tết film race, Đèn âm hồn made a remarkable comeback. According to Box Office Vietnam, as of February 12, the film grossed 65 billion VND, surpassing heavyweights like Nụ hôn bạc tỷ and Bộ tứ báo thủ to top the daily box office charts.
Conclusion
Đèn âm hồn is not only a cinematically rich work of art but also a testament to the dedication and passion of the entire filmmaking crew. With his role as Mõ Làng, Quang Teo contributed significantly to the film’s success, showcasing his versatile acting abilities.
