President Lula da Silva expresses admiration and a special affection for Vietnam, even identifying himself as part of the “Vietnamese generation”. He was the first and only Brazilian head of state to visit Vietnam officially in July 2008.

Vietnam-Brazil Strategic Partnership
During his previous presidential terms, President Lula actively promoted cooperation with Vietnam across various sectors, including economics, trade, science and technology, renewable energy, education, and training. In 2007, the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership, and recently, in November 2024, this relationship was upgraded to a Strategic Partnership.
President Lula has hosted numerous visits from Vietnamese leaders, including General Secretary Nong Duc Manh (May 2007), President Tran Duc Luong (November 2004), and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (September 2023). Most recently, he met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the G20 in Brazil, and together they issued a joint statement upgrading the relationship to a Strategic Partnership.

As a founding member of BRICS, Brazil boasts the largest economy in Latin America and ranks 10th globally (in 2023). Rich in natural resources, Brazil is the world’s second-largest agricultural producer and third-largest exporter of minerals.
Brazil’s science and technology sector also reaches a high level in various fields, with notable achievements in production and applied research. The country has a fairly developed aerospace, military, mechanical, and manufacturing industry.
