Effective Psoriasis Management at Local Levels

According to data from the National Dermatology Hospital, there are approximately 1,000 psoriasis patients currently managed at this facility. However, many patients have been transferred to provincial-level healthcare for monitoring and treatment. This not only reduces the load on central hospitals but also provides greater convenience for patients who can now receive care closer to home.

“Patients can now be effectively managed at the provincial or even district level, without having to travel hundreds of kilometers as before,” emphasized Dr. Doanh. “Some patients previously traveled 300km, 500km, or even up to 1,000km to reach the hospital, but now they no longer need to.”

A prime example is Đắk Lắk Dermatology Hospital. Despite having highly skilled doctors, the hospital faced limitations in its drug inventory, particularly biologic medications used for psoriasis treatment, resulting in suboptimal outcomes. With support from the National Dermatology Hospital, specialized clinics were established, enabling the use of advanced treatments, including biologic injections worth tens of millions of Vietnamese đồng.

Success Through Strategic Line Management

The success of bringing psoriasis treatment to provincial levels is a result of the strategic line management initiative strongly implemented by the National Dermatology Hospital. In 2024, the hospital conducted investigations and epidemiological surveys in seven provinces, provided training and technical transfers to twelve others, and expanded specialized dermatology activities across 21 units in 20 provinces nationwide.

Specialized psoriasis clinics at local levels not only improve patient management and treatment but also significantly reduce travel costs and waiting times. This marks a major step forward in enhancing healthcare quality for residents.

Toward Eradicating Leprosy

In addition to improving psoriasis treatment, the National Dermatology Hospital is also focusing on the 2025-2030 Leprosy Prevention Strategy with the slogan: “For a Leprosy-Free Vietnam: No Transmission, No Cases, No Disability, and No Discrimination.”

In 2024, the hospital strengthened international cooperation, emphasizing training and scientific research to advance the field. These achievements clearly demonstrate the relentless efforts of all hospital staff and close collaboration with dermatology units nationwide.

Key Objectives for 2025

Looking ahead, the National Dermatology Hospital has identified key objectives for 2025, including:

  • Advancing cutting-edge treatment techniques.
  • Strengthening the national dermatology network to ensure everyone has access to high-quality healthcare services.
  • Enhancing medical examination and treatment quality while refining management processes.
  • Boosting international cooperation and promoting scientific research.

These efforts promise to bring about positive changes, contributing to building a sustainable and effective healthcare system that meets the growing needs of the population.

Conclusion

Expanding the model of managing and treating psoriasis at local levels represents a significant advancement in healthcare and reflects the strong commitment of the National Dermatology Hospital to improving patients’ quality of life.
