At the end of the year, the camera market usually heats up with many people looking to purchase or upgrade their equipment to capture memorable moments with family and friends. However, this year, despite deep discounts offered by retailers, sales remain sluggish.
Camera Market Offers Big Discounts but Fewer Buyers
According to surveys at several second-hand camera shops in Hanoi, many camera models are being discounted by millions of Vietnamese dong. However, economic instability has made consumers more cautious about spending, leading to a lackluster market.
Entry-Level and Mid-Range Cameras
In the entry-level and mid-range segments, popular camera models are being heavily discounted to boost sales. Some notable examples include:
- Nikon Z30 with 16-50mm kit lens: Reduced by 4 million VND, now priced at 16.9 million VND.
- Canon 1200D (body): Reduced by 1 million VND, currently priced at 3.9 million VND.
- Canon EOS RP (body): Reduced by 8 million VND, now priced at 16 million VND.
These attractive prices usually draw attention from budget-conscious buyers, but sales have not significantly improved.
Professional Cameras
Meanwhile, in the high-end segment, professional-grade cameras are also experiencing deep discounts. Notable products include:
- Nikon Zf (body): Reduced by over 10 million VND, now priced at 36 million VND.
- Nikon Z9: Reduced by 14 million VND, now priced at 98 million VND.
- Sony Alpha A7 Mark III: Reduced by 13 million VND, now priced at 28.9 million VND.
Even with these large discounts, interest from potential buyers remains limited.
Reasons for the Quiet Camera Market
Mr. Do Anh Kien, owner of a second-hand camera shop in Hanoi, shared, “Every year, the period near Tet is the busiest time for us, with a surge in customers trading in their old cameras. This year, however, sales have dropped significantly. Part of the reason is the tough economic situation, and another part is that users are satisfied with their current cameras and have no immediate need to upgrade.”
Additionally, the growing capabilities of smartphones in photography have also contributed to fewer people opting for professional cameras.
The Rise of Instant Print Cameras
Notably, instant print cameras have received particular attention from young consumers due to their affordable prices and unique features. Products from the Fujifilm brand are being discounted by 200,000 to 500,000 VND, making them suitable for many budgets.
Ms. Vu Hong Bao Uyen, an office worker in Hanoi, commented, “During Tet, I usually take photos with my smartphone. However, this year, I decided to buy an instant print camera to add more joy to the holiday. It’s not just a decorative item but also helps me preserve special memories with family and friends.”
According to Ms. Uyen, these cameras cost only a few million VND, come in diverse colors and designs, and are very appealing to young consumers.
Store Support Policies
To attract customers, many stores offer additional incentives such as free memory cards, camera bags, extended warranties, and lifetime adjustment, maintenance, and cleaning services.
Conclusion
This year’s Tet camera market has seen significant price reductions across various segments, but sales remain low due to economic challenges and the increasing popularity of smartphones. However, instant print cameras have emerged as a bright spot thanks to their reasonable prices and unique features. If you’re looking for a meaningful gift to capture Tet moments, this could be a great choice.
