Vaccination Rates Surge Tenfold

On February 11, Dr. Huynh Minh Truc, Director of the Can Tho City Center for Disease Control (CDC Can Tho), told Dân trí that the number of people coming to get flu vaccines has sharply increased over the past week, averaging between 200 and 400 doses per day. This represents a tenfold, or even fifteenfold, increase compared to usual daily rates.

“In the past, we only saw a few dozen doses per day. Now, we are seeing an average of 200 to 400 doses,” said the director of the CDC Can Tho.

According to Dr. Truc, the center has arranged additional shifts and increased the number of healthcare workers to meet the demand. Despite the surge in demand, the price of the vaccines remains stable and is publicly listed. The center primarily uses four types of vaccines from Vietnam, France, the Netherlands, and South Korea, with prices ranging from 215,000 to 343,000 VND per dose.

On the same day, other vaccination centers across Can Tho city also reported a significant increase in the number of people getting flu vaccines, particularly among the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Residents Urged to Wear Masks Outdoors

On February 10, Deputy Director of Can Tho Health Department Pham Phu Truong Giang issued an urgent directive to enhance efforts in preventing and controlling seasonal influenza.

The Health Department noted that the current weather conditions, characterized by cold and damp air, provide an ideal environment for the rapid spread of viruses.

Health authorities have taken proactive measures to prevent and control the spread of influenza, ensuring public calm. They urged all medical facilities to remind patients and visitors to wear masks when outdoors. The CDC Can Tho was instructed to work closely with district and county health centers to monitor cases of influenza and severe viral pneumonia (SVP) as per guidelines from the Ministry of Health.

Additionally, private medical institutions were advised to report any suspected cases of viral pneumonia or influenza to the nearest health station or district health center.
