Loại bỏ người bàn lùi và thiếu trách nhiệm khi xây sân bay Long Thành

The International Long Thanh Airport project is one of the key national infrastructure projects expected to drive economic and social development in Vietnam. However, the project’s implementation faces significant challenges, requiring decisive action from government authorities.

Project Implementation Status

At a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on January 25, 2025, while some milestones have been achieved, many components remain behind schedule or incomplete. This is particularly concerning given the airport’s critical role in ensuring double-digit economic growth in the future.

Component Projects

The International Long Thanh Airport project consists of four main components:

  • Component Project 1: Relates to state agency headquarters.
  • Component Project 2: Includes air traffic management facilities.
  • Component Project 3: Comprises essential infrastructure such as runways and passenger terminals.
  • Component Project 4: Involves ground service facilities.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính emphasizes the importance of the project at the meeting.

Major Challenges

  • Component Project 1: The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has not allocated funds for the animal/plant quarantine station.
  • Component Project 3: Although 36% of the work value has been completed, construction of the runway and passenger terminal remains very slow. Importing specialized equipment from abroad is a major obstacle.
  • Component Project 4: Some tenders have not yet selected investors, severely affecting the overall airport operations.

Decisive Leadership from the Government

At the meeting, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính issued specific directives to address bottlenecks and accelerate the project.

Accountability Measures

The Prime Minister demanded strict accountability for individuals and organizations responsible for delays. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, along with related agencies, must review and clarify responsibilities and report back to the government leadership.

Minister of Transport Trần Hồng Minh reports on the project’s progress.

Mobilizing Full Resources

The Prime Minister emphasized that if necessary, police and military forces should be mobilized to support construction efforts. He also called for close cooperation among relevant agencies, reviewing work processes, adding manpower, and increasing supervision.

Specific Solutions

  • Component Project 1: The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development must complete the capital approval procedures before the deadline.
  • Component Project 2: Completion by April 30, 2025.
  • Component Project 3: Review the construction plan, increase subcontractors with experience from major airports like Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat.
  • Component Project 4: The Ministry of Transport must complete remaining procedures by February 15, 2025.

The Prime Minister demands the removal of irresponsible individuals.

Conclusion

Long Thanh Airport is not just an infrastructure project but a symbol of Vietnam’s rapid development. To meet the goal of basic completion by the end of 2025, all related agencies and individuals must demonstrate the highest level of responsibility, “only discussing action, not delays.” Determination and coordinated effort will be key to achieving this target on time.
