Many believe Ronaldo cannot be considered truly great without a World Cup victory. Responding to this viewpoint, the Portuguese superstar stated: “I feel like I lack nothing. People can say whatever they want.
My biggest dream was always to win a title with the national team. However, it’s unfair to say I need a World Cup trophy to have a great career. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in football. If I win this title, I’ll be happy, but it’s not my main goal.”
When asked about the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup, Ronaldo said: “If I am still physically and mentally fit, and if the national team still needs me, I will be ready to compete.”
Besides aiming for one last World Cup appearance, Ronaldo also dreams of playing alongside his 14-year-old son, Cristiano Jr. He added: “I would love to play alongside my 14-year-old son, but we’ll see. It depends more on me than on him.”

Speaking about retirement plans, the number 7 star said: “I enjoy playing, but I understand that sooner or later, everything comes to an end. In 2 or 3 years, I don’t know exactly. I’m not too worried about it. My passion remains the most important thing.
Before every match, I feel butterflies in my stomach as adrenaline kicks in. It makes me sweat. I feel that my passion drives me onto the pitch every week.
I could retire today and feel no regrets. But I’m still very good and know how to make a difference. At least, I can keep going for another 2 or 3 years. I live in the present, not the future.”
Ronaldo has scored 924 goals in his career and is nearing the milestone of 1,000 goals. Despite turning 40, the Portuguese star shows no signs of slowing down. He currently leads the Saudi Arabian league’s scoring chart this season with 16 goals.
