Cristiano Ronaldo: “I’m the Greatest Footballer in History, Better Than Messi and Maradona”

C.Ronaldo: "Tôi là cầu thủ vĩ đại nhất lịch sử, hơn Messi, Maradona"

On February 5, Cristiano Ronaldo will turn 40. Despite this milestone, he shows no signs of slowing down. With a brace against Al Wasl in the AFC Champions League Elite, CR7 has now scored his 923rd career goal. The striker is steadily approaching the 1,000-goal mark.

This accomplishment fuels Ronaldo’s confidence. In an interview with LaSexta TV, the Portuguese superstar declared himself the greatest footballer in history.

Ronaldo stated: “I believe I am the most versatile player in the history of world football. People can admire Messi, Maradona, or Pele. I respect that, but I consider myself the most versatile player ever.

I am the greatest footballer in history. I haven’t seen anyone better than me. That’s a heartfelt statement.”

In the same interview, Ronaldo acknowledged his good relationship with Messi. He said: “I’ve never had a bad relationship with Messi. We have shared 15 individual awards and always got along well. I even once translated English for Messi. It was quite funny.

Messi dedicates himself fully to his teams, just as I do. I think we have respected each other. There were years when Messi wanted to win everything, and so did I. It was healthy competition.”

Ronaldo emphasized that he remains the greatest footballer in history, even without reaching 1,000 goals. The No. 7 added: “Everything should happen naturally. Whether I score 920, 925, or 930 goals, I will still be the greatest in history, period.

Regarding goal-scoring, the numbers speak for themselves. I don’t sit here promising to reach 1,000 goals. If I do, it would be fantastic. I think it’s not out of reach. I live in the present, not too focused on the future. One day, I might wake up without motivation. Enjoying every moment is crucial.”

Ronaldo criticized the MLS, deeming it inferior to the Saudi Arabian league. He commented: “When I decided to come to Saudi Arabia, I didn’t expect the league to grow so quickly. But I know it will become major within 1-2 years.

Many people misunderstand and talk too much. I feel sorry for those who say the Saudi league is vastly different from the MLS. Is the MLS of lower quality compared to the Saudi league? Clearly, yes. But the league is underrated simply because it takes place in Saudi Arabia.”
