David Beckham Knighted: A Day of Mixed Emotions

Nỗi buồn trong ngày phong tước Hiệp sĩ của David Beckham

From now on, he officially holds the title “Sir David Beckham,” and his wife will be known as “Lady Beckham.”

A Great Honor in “Sir David Beckham’s” Life

On November 5, King Charles III personally bestowed a knighthood upon David Beckham, recognizing his enduring contributions to sports and charity work.

In that momentous occasion, Beckham emotionally shared: “From a young boy who only dreamed of becoming a professional footballer in East London to being knighted at Windsor, this is the most incredible thing in my life. This isn’t just an honor for me, but for my entire family.”

The title “Sir” is a recognition of Beckham’s illustrious career, during which he played 115 times for the England national team and for renowned clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Beyond his brilliance on the pitch, Beckham has also made his mark in community activities. Since 2005, he has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, participating in numerous global child support projects.

Recently, he became an Ambassador for The King’s Foundation, a charity founded by King Charles III, which aims to encourage young people to pursue careers related to environmental and sustainable development.

Beckham’s affection for the British Royal Family once moved the public. In 2022, he queued for over 12 hours to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth II – a simple yet profoundly respectful act that earned him admiration from millions of Britons.

According to The Athletic, Beckham’s knighthood this year “came as no surprise,” as for the past two decades, he has consistently been a role model for dedication and social responsibility.

The news of Beckham’s knighthood was announced in June. His becoming a Knight places him in a small but prestigious list of English football greats, alongside names like Bobby Charlton, Alf Ramsey, Geoff Hurst, Matt Busby, Alex Ferguson, and Kenny Dalglish.

Incomplete Joy

After the knighthood ceremony, the Beckham family hosted a celebratory dinner at the restaurant of chef Gordon Ramsay, a long-time friend of Beckham’s. Harper, his 14-year-old youngest daughter, garnered attention for her elegant style in a pink silk dress designed by her mother.

On social media, Beckham’s children all sent their congratulations. Romeo posted a photo with the caption: “No one deserves this more, Dad. Congrats Sir Dad!” His third son, Cruz, shared a series of photos with messages expressing his pride.

On his personal page, the former Manchester United player sent a heartfelt tribute to his children: “To my wonderful children, I am so proud of you. This is also an inspiring day for you, as you are the greatest joy and motivation in my life. I love you all so much. Thank you, the Royal Family.”

However, the event was notably missing Brooklyn Beckham, David and Victoria’s eldest son. He and his wife, actress Nicola Peltz, did not attend the ceremony nor did they send congratulations to his father on social media, stirring public speculation.

The Beckhams’ eldest son and his wife, Nicola Peltz, are reportedly at odds with the Beckham family. Since last December, the young couple has not appeared at any family events or interacted on social media with his parents, despite David and Victoria often making efforts to reconcile with their children.

Some sources suggest that the discord between Brooklyn and his wife and his parents emerged around the time of their wedding in May 2022.

At the time, Nicola was reportedly said to have “snubbed” her future mother-in-law’s offer to wear a wedding dress designed by Victoria’s brand, choosing instead a Valentino gown. Nicola Peltz later denied this claim in an interview with Variety magazine.

She stated: “I was going to wear my mother-in-law’s dress and I really wanted to. But a few months later, she realized her atelier couldn’t make the dress, so I had to choose another one. She didn’t force me, and I didn’t refuse to wear her dress. That’s where it all started, and then people exaggerated it.”

Last August, Brooklyn and Nicola held a second wedding ceremony in the US, without inviting any members of the Beckham family. While ignoring his own parents, Brooklyn continuously expressed affection for his wife and her family. This deeply hurt David and Victoria.

A source revealed to Hello! magazine that David is still trying to reconcile with his son: “He is ready to fly to the US to meet Brooklyn and talk. David doesn’t want the conflict to drag on; he just wishes the whole family could sit down together.”

A friend of the Beckham family stated that Brooklyn had caused heartache to the family members, who did not want their family matters exposed in the press.
