Incident Overview

According to initial information, the group arrived at the beach late in the afternoon to enjoy the festive atmosphere. While swimming, two individuals, D.N.H. (18 years old, residing in My Chau commune, Phu My district) and T.H.T. (18 years old, residing in My Loc commune, Phu My district), were caught off guard by strong waves that swept them out to sea. Despite their efforts to escape the powerful currents, both could not return safely.

Upon receiving the report, local authorities and residents immediately launched rescue operations. The body of D.N.H. was found after several hours of searching, while T.H.T. remains missing. Authorities are working closely to continue the search for the remaining victim.

Efforts to Find the Missing Victim

Currently, forces such as the My An Police Station, My Tho Police Station, and My An Border Station are advising the Phu My District People’s Committee to mobilize additional resources for the search. The weather conditions and natural environment at the beach area are creating challenges for the rescue operation; however, all efforts are being made to bring the victim back to their family as soon as possible.

Lessons Learned from the Incident

This heartbreaking incident serves as a serious reminder to the community, especially the youth, about the hidden dangers of outdoor activities at the seaside. To prevent similar accidents, consider the following points:

  • Check weather conditions before entering the water: Strong waves and complex tides can increase the risk of drowning.
  • Avoid swimming in unsupervised areas: Remote or less frequented beaches often lack safety measures.
  • Equip yourself with basic first aid knowledge: Understanding swimming skills and handling emergencies can reduce risks.
  • Obey local authority warnings: Many coastal areas have warning signs indicating dangerous conditions that should be heeded.

Conclusion

The tragic incident involving 11 young people swimming on Tet day, resulting in two casualties, is a wake-up call regarding the importance of preventing accidents while enjoying natural areas. Each individual must raise awareness about self-protection and adhere to safety regulations. We hope that authorities will soon find the missing victim and bring peace to their families.

To ensure safety during upcoming holidays, always remember that joy is only complete when we prioritize safety.
