Not long ago, diva Hong Nhung surprised everyone by sharing news about her first breast cancer treatment in Singapore. The singer is currently recovering and receiving special care at the hospital. This inspiring story also sheds light on her deep bond with her father – translator Lê Văn Viện.
Overcoming Breast Cancer: From Fear to Hope
Diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2024 during her Hong Nhung Sings About Hanoi live concert, the diva faced a major shock. Initially, she kept her illness private to focus on completing her music project without affecting colleagues. However, after successful surgery, Hong Nhung decided to share her journey.
“I want to send this message to all women battling breast cancer. You are not alone. Let’s hope together and believe that good things will come. We can overcome and conquer this disease,” Hong Nhung shared optimistically.
Her resilience has become a source of encouragement for many, especially those facing serious illnesses. She hopes people approach challenges positively instead of being overwhelmed by fear.
Sacred Father-Daughter Bond: An 85-Year-Old Father Living Independently
Returning to Vietnam over a year ago, Hong Nhung wished to be closer to her father – translator Lê Văn Viện, who raised her as a child. However, he firmly declined living with his daughter and grandchildren.
“My father only wants to live in the same building but not the same house. To ensure someone is around in case of emergencies at night, I hired a helper to stay with him,” Hong Nhung explained.
Translator Lê Văn Viện, born in 1940, is a literature enthusiast with significant contributions to translation. Even in his 80s, he translated the short story collection The Tangerines and the 1,000-page novel series The Adventurers. Despite declining health, he maintains an independent and disciplined lifestyle.
A Difficult Childhood and Boundless Love from Her Father
Hong Nhung once revealed her challenging childhood. Her parents divorced when she was two, and she was raised by her father. Despite family struggles, the diva received love and strict guidance from him.
“As a child, I had to handle all household chores like grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, and cleaning before I could go sing. Occasionally, I got spanked for sneaking out to perform or coming home late,” she recalled.
This discipline helped Hong Nhung grow into a strong and independent woman. To express gratitude, she wrote Vietnamese lyrics for the song Papa, dedicated to her beloved father.
Trinh Cong Son and His Special Connection with Hong Nhung’s Family
Few know that musician Trinh Cong Son mentored Hong Nhung early in her career in Ho Chi Minh City due to his close friendship with translator Lê Văn Viện. He composed three famous songs specifically for her: Bống bồng ơi (1993), Bống không là Bống (1995), and Thuở Bống là người (1998).
These compositions not only solidified Hong Nhung’s fame but also symbolized the affection Trinh Cong Son held for her family.
Conclusion: Faith and Love Conquer All Challenges
Hong Nhung’s story is not just about overcoming illness but also a testament to the power of familial love. Her strength and her father’s resilience inspire many. Their journey highlights lessons of faith, perseverance, and love, spreading profound humanitarian values.
Let’s wish Hong Nhung and her family continued health and happiness as they contribute positively to society.
