The DPR Korea U17 women’s team proved unrivaled at the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup. On their path to the final, they achieved a perfect record of six consecutive victories, including a semi-final win against Brazil. The North Korean girls’ opponent in the final match was the U17 Netherlands women’s team, the reigning European champions.

However, when faced with the overwhelmingly strong DPR Korea U17 women’s team, the “Dutch whirlwind” fizzled out, much like their previous encounter in the group stage (where DPR Korea won 5-0). In this rematch, the DPR Korea U17 women’s team again secured a decisive 3-0 victory.
With this result, the DPR Korea U17 women’s team successfully defended their U17 Women’s World Cup title. This marks the fourth time in history that the young North Korean women’s football team has won this tournament, making them the most successful team in the competition’s history.
From the start of the match, the DPR Korea U17 women’s team continued to assert their dominance. Their high-pressing play posed significant difficulties for their opponents. In just the 14th minute, Kim Won Sim opened the scoring for the Asian representatives with a beautiful header.
Just four minutes later, DPR Korea U17 women’s team successfully exploited a gap in the Dutch defense. Pak Rye Yong easily tapped the ball into the net, extending their lead to 2-0.
In the 42nd minute, Ri Ui Gyong swiftly pressed to intercept a weak back-pass from a Dutch defender. The Dutch goalkeeper’s clearance then ricocheted off a North Korean player and flew directly into the net, making the score 3-0 in favor of DPR Korea U17 women’s team after only the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, the U17 Netherlands women’s team pushed forward, hoping to find a goal. However, the clear disparity in skill level meant that the Dutch team could barely create any significant threats. The DPR Korea U17 women’s defense effectively neutralized their opponents’ attacks, leaving the European champions struggling. The match concluded with a 3-0 victory for the DPR Korea U17 women’s team.
Thus, the DPR Korea U17 women’s team brilliantly clinched the U17 Women’s World Cup title with a perfect record of seven wins. Player Yu Jong Hyang outstandingly secured both the Golden Boot (8 goals) and the Best Player of the Tournament awards. Teammate Kim Won Sim received the Silver Ball and Silver Boot awards (7 goals). This clearly demonstrates the absolute superiority of the DPR Korea U17 women’s team over all other competitors.
