During the final days of the year, the Tet atmosphere permeated every corner of the wards at Nghe An Oncology Hospital. Patients battling cancer eagerly awaited the new year with hopes of spending time with their families and welcoming a peaceful future.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (born in 1984, residing in Nghi Loc District, Nghe An Province) is one of the patients fighting breast cancer. Since 2020, she has been undergoing treatment at Nghe An Oncology Hospital. Recently, she received news suggesting that her cancer had metastasized to her bones, causing her spirits to plummet.

Despite being mentally prepared, thinking about her one-year-old child brings her great sorrow. This Tet holds even more significance for her, as it is a precious moment to spend with her child.

Ms. Hien’s sadness was temporarily alleviated when she was invited to participate in the “Spring of Love” program organized by Nghe An Oncology Hospital. This annual event aims to provide emotional support and encouragement to patients undergoing treatment.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Social Work and Communication at Nghe An Oncology Hospital, stated that this year’s program was made possible thanks to contributions from medical staff and donors, totaling over 800 million Vietnamese dong.

The funds were distributed among 500 patients, each receiving 1 million Vietnamese dong in cash and gifts. Receiving the early Tet gift, Ms. Hien could not hide her emotion.

“For patients like us, even a small amount is precious. This gift is not just material but also a sign of care and encouragement from doctors and donors, helping me stay strong in my fight against the disease,” Ms. Hien shared.

Ms. Hien also mentioned that she plans to use the money to buy pigeons and prepare 100 bowls of soup to share with fellow patients in her ward. “Many people still need to continue their treatment and cannot return home for Tet. I hope to spread this love to them so we can fight this serious illness together. I wish for better health in the new year so we can spend more time with our families,” Ms. Hien expressed.

The “Spring of Love” program not only provides material gifts but also offers renewed motivation and hope to cancer patients on their journey to recovery.
