Mr. N.M.H. (41), was admitted to the Emergency Room on April 18th, in critical condition with severe abdominal pain, plummeting blood pressure, rapid pulse, and pale skin and mucous membranes.
Doctors diagnosed him with hemorrhagic shock, multiple trauma, chest trauma, closed abdominal trauma, and suspected head trauma.
A FAST ultrasound performed at the bedside revealed free fluid in the abdomen, suggesting a possible ruptured spleen causing acute hemorrhagic shock. A CT scan confirmed a grade IV-V spleen rupture, fractured transverse processes of the lumbar spine, multiple rib fractures on both sides, and a left pneumothorax (collapsed lung).
Immediately, Tân Phú District Hospital activated its inter-hospital “red alert” system, contacting and receiving emergency assistance from People’s Hospital 115.
Within a short time, the general surgery, thoracic surgery, and intensive care teams from People’s Hospital 115 arrived at Tân Phú District Hospital to perform the surgery.
The emergency surgery, a collaborative effort of the two hospitals, lasted over three hours. The patient survived the critical period and was transferred to the General Surgery ward for further intensive care at Tân Phú District Hospital.
After 11 days of treatment, the patient was discharged in stable condition with a good recovery.
Hospital officials stated that the successful case exemplifies the effectiveness of the in-hospital and inter-hospital “red alert” procedures in saving lives during critical situations.
