On February 17, driver Bui Quang De from Thái Bình Province received 10 million VND as compensation for car repair costs following an incident involving a damaged expansion joint on National Highway 45 – Nghi Sơn, in Thanh Hóa Province, which occurred on February 6.
“After the issue was reported, representatives from Project Management Unit 2 contacted me to resolve the matter. Today, I received the 10 million VND support payment,” De shared.

The representative also stated that if similar incidents occur in the future, support will be evaluated based on specific causes to determine appropriate solutions.
Previously, as reported by Dân Trí, on February 6, driver Bui Quang De was driving on the National Highway 45 – Nghi Sơn Expressway, near the Nhơm River Bridge in Trung Chính Commune, Nông Cống District (Thanh Hóa), when his vehicle suddenly hit a dislodged expansion joint.

De incurred nearly 20 million VND in repair costs and subsequently reported the matter to relevant authorities, requesting financial support for repairs.
According to a representative from Project Management Unit 2, since the National Highway 45 – Nghi Sơn Expressway has not yet started toll collection and is still under warranty, there is no established mechanism for compensation.
However, many believe that responsibility lies with the project’s contractor and investor, not the drivers. Therefore, affected drivers should receive support or compensation.

Authorities are urged to strengthen supervision over entities responsible for managing and maintaining the expressway system, promptly organizing repairs and resolving any structural issues to ensure normal operating conditions for the highway network.
