A 65-Year Journey of Building and Development
The Hanoi Drama Theater was established from the Speech Theater Team under the Hanoi People’s Art Troupe in 1959. In 1965, this team separated and operated independently under the name Hanoi Speech Theater. In 1993, the Hanoi People’s Committee decided to convert it into the Hanoi Drama Theater. In 2009, after the expansion of the capital’s administrative boundaries, the Hanoi West Speech Theater merged with the theater, forming a stronger artistic organization.
NSND Trung Hieu, Director of the Hanoi Drama Theater, proudly shared that it is not only an “artistic sanctuary” but also a gathering place for generations of talented artists. Over the past 65 years, the theater has produced 12 National Artists (NSND) and 24 Artist Members (NSUT), as well as trained many young actors who are beloved by audiences both on stage and on television.
The works of the theater always authentically reflect the breath of life, the spirit, and the character of Hanoians. They also closely align with significant historical periods of the nation, contributing to the promotion of national cultural values.

Notably, at the ceremony, NSND Trung Hieu was honored with the Labor Order of Merit Third Class, while two Deputy Directors—NSND Cong Ly and NSUT Duc Quang—received commendations from the Hanoi People’s Committee.
Sharing his feelings about the award, NSND Cong Ly expressed surprise and happiness. He thanked leadership and colleagues for their support in overcoming health challenges to continue contributing to the arts.
